How does Hydrogen helps cardiac arrest patients?
About 130,000 cardiac arrest patients are admitted to emergency rooms every year in Japan. Even after the patient recovers from the surgery/treatment, they may still suffer from permanent brain damage from lack of oxygen during the arrest: some may become bedridden or not able to speak, just to mention a couple.
Hydrogen is known to prevent death of cells and brain damage. Also lab study on mouse shows the cardiac arrest survival rate increase from 38% to 71% with by applying Hydrogen. Taking these factors, 12 University hospitals in Japan are starting clinical study applying Hydrogen gas to the patients for 18 hours after cardiac arrest and gather more data on human cases. They are hoping to establish and scandalize the Hydrogen treatment on cardiac arrest in 2-3 years.
